National Examiners:

Asia Thayer 

Asia has been involved in USPC for over 30 years as a member, club level examiner, Regional Instruction Coordinator (RIC), co-chair of national RIC committee, member of the instruction council, member of the education task force, co-chair national testing committee, and national examiner testing through the A level in eventing, dressage, and show jumping. She is a current member of the Board of Governors. Asia has been an active competitor and coach within the USDF and USEA earning her bronze medal and competing through the FEI 2-star level in eventing. She obtained her master’s degree in Biology and Graduate Certificate in Public Health Genetics. Asia owns a boarding and training facility in Gig Harbor, WA.


Kim Smith

Kim has been involved with horses for her entire life with almost twenty years of professional teaching and training experience. Kim attended Virginia Tech where she earned a B.A. in Animal Science (Equine) and an M.S. in Education while competing on both the IHSA and IDA teams. She has trained riders and horses through preliminary level eventing, second level dressage, and the working hunters. Kim focuses on helping the rider communicate better with their horse through a correct position and clear use of the aids with an emphasis on exceptional horse care. Kim has also been an open show judge and is currently a National Examiner for the United States Pony Club


Cherie Gaebel

Cherie is a life member of the USPC which has given her a great opportunity to share her experiences in the equine community. She is I a graduate "A" from Groton Pony Club. As her career progressed she was able to ride in the first Kentucky championship and festival as an "A". She is now a national examiner testing through the A level and teaching clinics around the country. She also has galloped race horses, fox hunted, evented to the advanced level, competed to 3rd level dressage and is currently showing jumpers.


LIndsay (Welles) Wyglendowski

Lindsay is a 2003 Graduate A EV from Connecticut Valley Pony Club in NY/Upper CT Region. She has been a USPC National Examiner since 2008 and served as NJ Region Treasurer in 2022. Lindsay taught high school English for five years before having children and beginning to homeschool in 2017. She is the bookkeeper for their family real estate businesses and her personal time is spent training for sprint-distance triathlon. Lindsay loves teaching and testing pony clubbers of all levels and has a special passion for the USPC Standards of Proficiency and all they strive to inspire


Nicole Ligon

Nicole is an “A” graduate from Pickering Hunt Pony Club in the Eastern Pennsylvania Region. She serves as the Regional Instruction Coordinator for her region and is an Apprentice National Examiner. She has been Chair of the National Youth Board, participated in National Youth Congress, the Visiting Instruction Program, and has participated in the Inter-Pacific Exchange Team as a team member in Canada 2015 and as a coach in Hong Kong in 2019. Nicole is extremely passionate about the upper level opportunities that USPC has given her and about encouraging other members to seek out those opportunities for themselves. Outside of USPC, Nicole competes and trains horses and riders out of Firefly Farm. She is a 2* level eventer and USDF Bronze Medalist. She enjoys baking, playing volleyball, listening to podcasts, and traveling.
